Antimony
Australia is a relatively small producer of antimony.
Mandalay Resources owns the Costerfield mine in Victoria. Costerfield is currently producing at 500 to 600 tonnes of gold-antimony flotation concentrate per month. The concentrate contains approximately 52% antimony and 60 g/t gold.
Mandalay produced 282 tonnes of saleable antimony in the 2nd quarter of 2010 versus 201 tonnes in the first quarter of 2010.
Anchor Resources owns the Wild Cattle Creek antimony deposit north of Dorrigo in New South Wales. The company is presently updating its resource work and more drilling will soon be under way. Its initial 2007 resource figure came in at 13,900 tonnes of contained antimony.
The Hillgrove Antimony/Gold Mine, located near Armidale, New South Wales, was purchased by Straits in March 2004. Operations have, however, been suspended due to technical issues.
